West Virginia University (WVU) has secured a commitment from 2025 defensive back prospect Chris Fileppo, a standout from La Salle College High School in Pennsylvania. Fileppo, standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 210 pounds, had previously committed to James Madison University in April 2024 but flipped his commitment to WVU in June following an official visit to Morgantown.
During his junior season in 2023, Fileppo demonstrated his defensive prowess by recording 62 tackles, seven pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and one interception, contributing to La Salle’s 6-5 record. His versatility on the field is evident, having played both linebacker and safety positions, with projections indicating he will assume the spear position—a hybrid linebacker/safety role—within WVU’s defensive scheme.
Fileppo’s athleticism extends beyond the football field; he is also a track athlete with personal bests of 10.9 seconds in the 100 meters and 22.52 seconds in the 200 meters, showcasing his speed and agility.
Recruiting services have recognized Fileppo’s potential. ESPN ranks him as the 28th overall prospect in Pennsylvania and the 89th linebacker nationally, while 247Sports lists him as the 25th best recruit in the state and the 116th at his position.
Fileppo’s commitment adds depth to WVU’s defensive backfield, marking him as the sixth defensive back commit in the 2025 class. His decision to join the Mountaineers over other offers, including those from Purdue, South Florida, and Connecticut, underscores WVU’s growing appeal under the guidance of secondary coach ShaDon Brown, who played a pivotal role in his recruitment.
With his combination of size, speed, and versatility, Fileppo is poised to make a significant impact on WVU’s defense in the coming years.
