A 4-star recruit from LaSalle High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, Smith started 11 games for Alabama during the 2024 season, primarily covering the slot. Opponents completed 19 of 29 passes against him for 123 yards without allowing a touchdown. As a graduate transfer with a redshirt season, Smith brings two years of eligibility to Notre Dame.
