Chavez “Sandman” Thompson, a three-star offensive lineman from Cocoa High School in Florida, has committed to Florida State University (FSU) for the 2025 season. Standing at 6’2″ and weighing 310 pounds, Thompson is recognized for his versatility, having played both guard and tackle positions during his high school career. He is projected to develop as a center at FSU, a position that aligns with his skills and experience.

Thompson’s recruitment journey has been eventful. He was previously committed to the Oregon Ducks from May 2023 to April 2024 and later pledged to Florida International University (FIU) following the hiring of head coach Willie Simmons and offensive line coach Ed Pata. However, after an official visit to FSU and the influence of offensive line coach Herb Hand, Thompson decided to flip his commitment to the Seminoles.

In addition to his football prowess, Thompson has a background in wrestling, having been a district champion in the 285-pound class during his sophomore year. This experience contributes to his understanding of leverage and balance, essential traits for an effective center.

  1. Thompson’s commitment adds depth to FSU’s offensive line for the 2025 recruiting class, which is currently ranked No. 20 nationally. His versatility and athleticism are expected to be valuable assets as he develops under the guidance of FSU’s coaching staff.
