LSU head coach Brian Kelly, who led Notre Dame from 2010 to 2021, has expressed his support for the Fighting Irish in their upcoming National Championship Game against Ohio State. Kelly stated, “I’m happy for all those guys, I pull for them… Obviously I want to see those guys win it all, and I think they’re in a great position. Totally excited for those guys.”
Kelly’s departure from Notre Dame in 2021 was controversial, as he cited a desire “to be in an environment where I have the resources to win a national championship.” He later clarified that his move was motivated by seeking a different challenge, not due to an inability to win at Notre Dame.
Since Kelly’s departure, Notre Dame, under head coach Marcus Freeman, has reached the National Championship Game, aiming to end a 36-year title drought. Meanwhile, Kelly’s LSU tenure has yet to yield a College Football Playoff appearance.
The National Championship Game between Notre Dame and Ohio State is scheduled for Monday, January 20, 2025, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Kickoff is at 7:30 PM ET, with Ohio State currently favored by eight points.
