Justice Haynes, a highly touted running back who began his collegiate career at the University of Alabama, has announced his decision to transfer to the University of Michigan.

Haynes, a five-star recruit from Buford, Georgia, was a standout in high school, amassing nearly 6,000 rushing yards and 72 touchdowns over his career. He committed to Alabama as part of the 2023 recruiting class, where he was ranked as the nation’s top running back and the 29th overall player by Rivals.

During his freshman year at Alabama, Haynes saw limited action, recording 25 rush attempts for 168 yards and two touchdowns. In his sophomore season, he increased his contributions, rushing 79 times for 448 yards and seven touchdowns, and adding 17 receptions for 99 yards.

Despite his potential, Haynes faced stiff competition in Alabama’s crowded backfield, which may have influenced his decision to enter the transfer portal on December 13, 2024. His commitment to Michigan, announced on December 24, 2024, marks a significant addition to the Wolverines’ roster.

Haynes’ decision to join Michigan reunites him with running backs coach Tony Alford, who previously recruited him during his tenure at Ohio State. This prior relationship likely played a role in Haynes’ transfer decision.

At Michigan, Haynes is expected to make an immediate impact, bolstering a backfield that includes promising talents like Jordan Marshall. His arrival is part of a broader strategy by Michigan to strengthen its roster through the transfer portal, with Haynes being the eighth transfer addition in this cycle.

The addition of Haynes is anticipated to enhance Michigan’s offensive capabilities, providing a dynamic rushing option that could elevate the team’s performance in the upcoming season. His blend of speed, agility, and field vision makes him a valuable asset as the Wolverines aim to compete at the highest levels of college football.
