Cy Young Ace Blake Snell Joins Dodgers in $182M Deal

Blake Snell, a two-time Cy Young Award winner, has reached an agreement to join the reigning World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, on a five-year contract worth a reported $182 million. The 31-year-old left-hander shared the news on Instagram Tuesday night, with multiple outlets confirming the deal, pending a physical examination.

Snell will bolster a Dodgers squad fresh off a World Series triumph over the New York Yankees in October. The move comes after Snell opted out of his two-year contract with the San Francisco Giants earlier this month, which would have paid him $38.5 million in 2025.

Despite a challenging start to the 2024 season, including two stints on the injured list, Snell made a remarkable comeback midyear. Over his final 14 starts, he posted a stellar 1.23 ERA, struck out 114 batters, and even notched his first career no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds on August 2.

Drafted in the first round by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2011, Snell has built an impressive career, earning his first Cy Young Award in 2018 with the Rays and a second in 2023 with the San Diego Padres. Over his eight-year MLB career, Snell boasts a 76-58 record and a 3.19 ERA across stints with the Rays, Padres, and Giants.

With this signing, the Dodgers secure one of the league’s top pitchers to strengthen their rotation and aim for another championship run.
