Just in: Ohio State chooses top prospect freshman to play defense 2025

Ohio State University has made a significant move in its 2025 football recruiting class by securing commitments from several top defensive prospects. These additions are expected to bolster the Buckeyes’ defense in the upcoming season.

 

Top Defensive Commitments:

 

Devin Sanchez (CB): Ranked as the No. 5 overall prospect and the top cornerback in the 2025 class, Sanchez hails from Houston, Texas. His commitment was announced during the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in January 2024.

 

Na’eem Offord (CB): Offord, a 6-foot-1.25-inch, 181-pound cornerback from Birmingham, Alabama, is ranked as the No. 9 overall prospect and the No. 3 cornerback in the 2025 class. He committed to Ohio State on February 4, 2024.

 

Riley Pettijohn (LB): A 6-foot-1.5-inch, 215-pound linebacker from McKinney, Texas, Pettijohn is ranked as the No. 32 overall prospect and the No. 2 linebacker in the 2025 class. He committed to Ohio State on July 6, 2024.

 

Zahir Mathis (DE): Mathis, a 6-foot-5-inch, 230-pound defensive end from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is ranked as the No. 64 overall prospect and the No. 8 edge rusher in the 2025 class. He committed to Ohio State on January 17, 2024.

 

Tarvos ‘TJ’ Alford (LB): Alford, a 6-foot-2-inch, 215-pound linebacker from Port St. Lucie, Florida, is ranked as the No. 66 overall prospect and the No. 4 linebacker in the 2025 class. He committed to Ohio State on March 30, 2024.

The addition of these highly ranked defensive players is expected to significantly enhance Ohio State’s defensive capabilities.
